This dog with a beautiful destiny, has been blessed by her highness The Dalai-Lama, will mark his passage by the descent he has given with Mrs Masset’s little Pema (originated from Sikkim) allowing to establish for the first time in France, a pure line of Lhasa Apsos from Tibet.

The crossing of two Apso dogs originated from Tibet, with no consanguinity, has given five very typed puppies. Serious work under a well known scientific advisor will allow, we hope, to pursue with success the come back to origine.

14 Months Already !

These little digs from Tibet, born in spring 2006, are now 14 months old.

Their owner and breeder Mrs H. Masset has kept with her the whole litter, 3 males and 2 females, in order to watch them.

In this way she will be able to see the distinctive features produced by two genuine Apsos from Tibet without any relationship between them. Both the father and the mother have had the confirmation, which makes up the starting point of first generation L.O.F.

We can notice that the result is very positive on the phenotype level. As on the behaviour, homogeneity concerning the heads is remarkable. Concerning the size it can be worked on. This is the next step to the future litter that is probably planed this year setting up the third L.O.F. generation.

About the behaviour, these dogs present a quite balanced temperament without any form of nervousness.

This breeding experience is very interesting for a double reason.

On the one hand, it allows to go back in time to regain the original features of a breed which 70 years of Western selection has rather adulterated and on the other hand, this experience is in line with to days spirit defending biodiversity and the rescue of endangered species.

We can’t help feeling moved by this return to basics.

38 Fish in the desert

They are 38 brothers and sisters, swimming in the same brackish water pond at the bottom of a cave lost in the desert of Nevada, locality "Devil' S Hile". They are the last of their species.

Cyprinodon diabolis don't look extraordinary, and yet have single genetic characteristics. The Supreme Court of the USA ordered their setting under intensive protection, and yet, they do not have probably nothing to say on the Maffia.

In a little XII century french village called "La Garde Adhémar", five puppies of Apsos originated from Tibet, species in the process of disappearance in its original type, are growing under the protected attention of their breeder which is doing it's best to preserve their unique genetics characteristics.

Here, unfortunately no Supreme Court for their protection, but simply the kind attention of breed fanciers . Let us wish a good luck to Cyprinodon diabolis and to the Apsos from Tibet...

E pur, si muove !
And yet, it turns !
(Galilée)

November last, after the “Nationale des Chiens du Tibet”  in Orleans, I could not prevent myself expressing here, the ill feeling I had seen amongst the breeders and their opposition to the Tibetan Line dogs, which were at the limit of courtesy.

This breeder’s behaviour, whom I had always considered as serious people and loving the breed, really astonished me.

If I harp on today on the subject, it is because I have the feeling history started all over again.

In deed, by incredible and exceptional circumstances, it has been possible, here in France, to get a litter of five puppies of pure Tibetan origin, as well from the mother than from the father.

These puppies were born in Madame Masset’s home (breeder of Lhasa since more than 30 years).

The mother, Pema, comes from Sikkim. Her pictures have been on this site since more than 2 past years.

The father Chang Po, same as my other dogs, I got from Mr D’Aoust in Canada and which now lives with a Tibetan Rimpoche. Chang Po ‘s pictures have been on this site since a long time now.

From these two dogs of absolute different blood lines and no Western blood, were born 3 males and 2 females. At the same time, Chang Po was married to Pivoine, Western line bitch.

Result 3 males and 1 female.

These two litters, one 100% origin blood, the other 50%, open a large possibility to establish several blood-lines, which for the breed seems to me almost a miracle.

These puppies are now 6 months old, they have grown with no problems, so far, and are already at the second generation in L.O.F., their parents being also registered in L.O.F. as first generation.

It is very interesting to remind, that the first official  Kennel Club Standard 1935 was established with dogs of same type. It is because all these reasons that it is difficult to understand the attitude of some breeders who obstinately refuse even to see them, as if the mere fact to look at them would make a salt statue of them.

To be a breeder of a dog and not to be interested in it, to refuse to observe the characteristics of origin dogs when you are lucky enough to posses some in the neighbourhood, it is unbelievable unless there are other reasons outside cynophily.

It is reproached to the Tibetan Line to have only a small percentage of origin blood. Here there is 100% for one litter and 50% for the other, which crossed together will soon become 75%, then 87,50%, and 93,75%, in other words practically pure.

Where is the problem ? Or rather, which is the true problem ?
Thanks God for Bailleys, Cuttings and other pioneers of Lhasa Apsos did not act of the sort, if not we would never had had Lhasa Apsos in Occident.

Thanks God too because there are still many fanciers amongst breeder, in France and abroad, who realised the importance of the event and who are very much interested in these puppies and follow them with a kind look.

A well known Australian breeder who lived several years in Tibet, told me the joy she feels when she looks at the photos of these little dogs on my web-site.

The come back to origin is not a utopia, it is in the straight line of tomorrow’s Society which will make of the environment preservation its main goal. It is no longer a matter of fancy for romantic’s nostalgia , It is a matter of surviving, water, air, oceans, earth, animal and vegetal species, all must be reconsidered. Canine world will not escape from it.

Dogs will no longer be considered as they are today.

The “Commission de Bruxelles” positions are eloquent. We will be compelled to forget things for which many breeders have been so enthusiastic, they have been more attracted by the form than the substance. Judges themselves, will be compelled to participate to this Spring which will oblige them to become the guardians of Nature.

There is no doubt that future will be dog in its natural state and that exhibitions as they are performed today will come back to what they were created for in May 1863 :

“It was not a mere curiosity exhibition, still less a market we intended to open. We wanted from a scientific and practical point of view, to bring together a collection of dogs as complete as possible, in order to classify pure breeds, utility or pet breeds, and to determine crossbreeds that should be maintained. In one word, to do a study and a general revision of the species."

Fully imbued of this spirit, several amateur cynophiles decided to create the S.C.C.
